WAIKATO NOTES.

HAMILTON, Saturday. The newly erected Hamilton Hotel, the! property of Messrs L. D. Nathan and: Co., will be opened this afternoon. The structure is a most imposing one, containing , about 50 rooms, having a frontage of Sift I and extending back in two wings a distance of 68ft. The house is thoroughly up to date, replete . with all modern conveniences, and is a credit alike to th» owners and the township. The contract price was £3600, and the work was carried out by Messrs J. Jones and Son, of Auckland. It is in this house that the newly formed Hamilton Club intend jnaklhgr their headquarters, and a spacious = roon* is being set aside for that purpose.."The members roll at.j>resent totals 60, and a number of others have yet to be ball'otted for. Mr F. W. Lang is the president, Mr G. W. Sare, vice president, while Mr"E. Li Hope has been elected secretary. The usual meeting of the Kirikiriroa Road Board lapsed yesterday for want of a quorum, only the Chairman (Mr j; Gordon) and Mr P. R. Seddon putting in an appearance. The following tenders.were accepted: Contract No. 1, gravelling from Libeau's to Hukanui, R. Waite, .1/3; No. 2, gravelling from Ngaruawahia to Taupiri, P. W. Littlewocd, 1/1. Accounts amounting to about £90 were passed for payment, Mr H. R. Nicholson has been returned as a member of the Newcastle lioad Board by a majority of 1. At a meeting of the Hamilton Library Committee the hon. sec. reported that the library building had been completed and taken over by the architect, and he was instructed to obtain the necessary .furniture. Messrs Barton, Swarbrick and Stevens were deputed to obtain new books to the extent of £30. An application from the Hamilton Chess Club for the use of the museum as a club room was deferred for future consideration. A hearty vote) of thanks was accorded the members ot the Hamilton Comedy Club for their donations towards the library fund. MORRINSVILLE, Saturday. At the Annandale Estate the residence of Mr W. S. Allen, on Thursday, Mr Leech was united in the holy bonds o£ matrimony with Miss Pritchard. The contracting parties are both employed on the estate. The bride was attended by Misa Ester Allen as bridesmaid, and Mr R. Allen acted as best man. About forty guests were entertained at breakfast by Mrs Allen, after which the newly married couple left for Te Aroha and Thames. '■' TAUPIRI, Friday! It Is understood that negotiations for the sale of the Preshfield Estate have been practically completed. The purchaseu is Mr T. C. Williams, of Wellington. PIRONGIA, Friday. The rifle match for members of thffl Waikato Mounted Rifles for Mr H. Howden's trophy took place on Thursday. Sergt. Miles' section, with Capt. A'ubin, Lieut. Hodgson and Vol. Blackmore as the other members proved victorious, winning with a margin of 14 points.
