ORGAN RECITAL.
The select few who gathered together on Wednesday afternoon in the Choral Hall had occasion to congratulate themselves upon the menu provided for their entertainment. Although the absence of the combination piston still hampers the performer on the organ, Mr J. P. Hooton gave a very good intepretation of the well-select-ed items chosen, and if some pieces were played better than others, the palm should be given to the Bach Prelude and fugue in B flat, and the Haydn Andante, both receiving excellent treatment. Batiste's Andante in G called forth a decided encore, and although in our opinion less deserving of praise than some others, was perhaps, with its brilliant arpeggios and chromatic passages, more calculated to take with the public. Another very popular item was the Minuet of Boccherini, in which the softer effects of the organ were displayed to advantage. We hope to hear this gentleman again before the Exhibition closes. —
