LADIES' COLLEGE, REMUERA.
The annual 'breaking-up' and presentation of prizes in connection with Mrs Moore-Jones' Ladies' College, Remuera, took place on Tuesday evening in the' Remuera Hall, Orakei RoacL The hall; was prettily decorated for the occasion by the young ladies of the college, under the supervision of their teachers. A large and fashionable assembly of parents and, friends were present. The Rev. W. Beatty presented the prizes. He said such a large and influential gathering was a very, cogent proof that the Ladies' College had taken a high scholastic place in the com^ munity, and that it hud won the respect and esteem of the parents. He spoke* sulogistically of the educational system' adopted in the coi' \ and considered that a pupil attending it had the opportunity of becoming the most beautiful thing—a good woman. The scholarship, :he event of the year, had been awarded' :o Miss Edith Webb, who showed remarkable mathematical genius for a girl 3f her age. Miss Walsh was also another pupil of promise. The prize list was as follows:— Scholarship, Miss Edith Webb: highest class marks for the year. Misses Elsia Tylden, Elsie Massey, Elsie Court, Kris;ie Kirkman, Ruth Gaibraith, and Mavi3 Clark; highest marks for examination, Misses Edith Webbe. Elsie Tylden, Nannie Young, Chrissy Kirkman, Ida Walker, Xellie Richardson, and Harold Winstone: Scripture prizes. Misses Veda Mo Cullough, Chrissy Kirkman, Ida Walker,, md Mavis Clark: arithmetic and mathematics. Misses D. Ware. Swarbrick*. Tyl3en, Rose. K. Brodie, K. Shera, Peach, Bodle, and Jeannie Young; French (Miss Lance's prize). Miss Webbe; conversational French, Miss Clarke; Latin, Misses Mildred Ryan, Eileen Dineen, Ralph Sibald Ponsford; English. Misses Rose and Hazel Morrin; hygiene. Miss Abbot; Latin. Misses K. Clarke, Eileen Dineen, Elsie Tylden. Rosewarne. Bodle; history, Misses Kitty Clark (Mr Hering's prize). Milly Rosewarne, Daisy Gaibraith, Veda MeCullough; geography. Misses Swarbrick, Linda Taylor. Chrissie Kirkman; needlework. Misses Lily Tanner, Kathleen Shera, Doris Warner; music. Miss Jeannie Young: drawing-. Misses Swarbrick.Skeates. Walsh, Hilda Morrin, Kathleen Morrin. K. Woodward; neatness in exercise books. Miss Freda Rosewarne; general steady work and corresponding improvement. Misses Ethel O'Halloran, Doris Warner. Leslie Abbott: medals: gold ana silver medal, Miss Elsie Tylden: silver medal. Miss Dineen: gold "medal, MissXannie Young. Mr Beatty presented to Miss Moore-. Jones an illuminated address in token of the gratitude that the musical pupils of the school felt towards the recipient of the presentation for the interest that she had taken in their work, and the material assistance that she had afforded them In preparing for the junior musical examination at the university, when a list of 15 successes was secured. Miss Winifred Moore-Jones was also presented with two volumes of Edna Lyall's works by a number of the pupils." During the latter' part of the evening the pupils gave a stage entertainment, which concluded with Dr. Vincent's sparkling operetta "The Two Queens.' All the arrangements were carried out by the pupils, under the management of Miss Moore-Jones.
