THE EXHIBITION.
A meeting1 of the Military Sports Committe was held last evening, Captain MacKenzie, presiding. A letter was received from Lieut. Wither, suggesting that sergeants should not be
excluded from taking part in the manual, bayonet, and physical drill competitions with the privates. It was decided to reply that no noncommissioned officers, rating as such from October 31, would be eligible to compete in the ranks, but might command teams. The Christ's College Rifles (Christchurch) and Captain Major wrote directing- attention to the vague details afforded in connection with the tent pitching- com-
petition. The following conditions were laid down: —Tent competition to be open to squads of live men from all corps one sergeant allowed in | each team. Squads to be formed up ■in line in front of their respective j tents, which will have been pitched,; I with bag, peg bag, and mallet inside, door open. On the signal being given, the squads will at once strike their tents, pack up and fasten everything in tent bag, which must be laced, then run to a point 20 yds distant, and ■ then pitch correctly a second tent to be provided and fall in at door of: tent. Curtain pegs not used, but must be carried in peg bag. Uniform, undress. Points to be given for neatness as well as speed. 'GOLDEN LEGEND' TO-NIGHT. During yesterday and last night a good nomber of visitors were present lat the Exhibition. The Rotorua and i Thermal Court continues to be a [great attraction to many. To-night, in the Choral' Hall 'The Golden Legend' will be re-produced with a choir cf 1200 voices and 50 instrumentalists. i Reserved seats can be reared at ?./. j The admission to the performance is 1/. To-morrow afternoon at 3 o'clock, a recital on the grand organ in the Choral Hall by Mr Hart noil is announced. In the evening there will be a vocal and instrumental cjneert by pupils of St. Mary's Convent. On Thursday, at 3.30, there will be a Maypole Dance by pupils of Mrs; Osborne. A water colour in the Choral 'Fall by Mr H. P. Scaly was en tilled 'Like Auckland in Summer.' This slmuM have read, 'A Summer's Day In Auckland.' A CLF.YKR TLTjL'SWX. On the lawn in front cf tlu? main entrance is exhibited at intervals a clever illusion"* entitled "The Sign .if the Cross." My means of ihe il:i>.-i<m, a lady appears alongside a cross and sings a sacred solo, also a living person is apparently converted in'o a skeleton, while a lady is evolved from a block of ice.
