The spring meeting of the Thames Amateur Athletic and Cycle Club was held yesterday. The weather was excellent, and the'attendance good. An enjoyable afternoon's sport was provided, most of the finishes being very interesting. Mr W. Madill, of Auckland, gave an exhibition of hammer-throwing, and established a New Zealand record, putting the IG'ib hammer a distance of 124 ft. An application will be made to the Now Zealand Association to have the throw placed as a record. One Mile Thames Amateur Cycle Championship: Seven started, and after a wellcontested race C. Tunis, of Waikato, secured a well-earned victory. CI. Mcnning and G. George, both of Auckland. bein_? second and third respectively. Time, 2m 34 3-ss.
One Mile Handicap: W. It. Madill won this event somewhat easily, his only opponent being A. Ross, who retired in the last round. Time. 5m 4-ss.
Quarter-mile Novelty Bicycle Race: In this event tho competitors rode 75yds, then loft their machines and ran 25yds to their lady nominators, and handed thorn a, piece of ribbon which they each carried. Tho ladies each threaded a large noodle with the ribbon, and handed the
same to the competitors, who then had to run back to their machines and ride once round the course, carrying the threaded noodle with them. This caused considerable amusement, and the contest was somewhat easily won by R. T. McQuado, whoso victory was largely duo to the oxpertnoss of his lady nominator in threading the needle. R. H. Coombes was second, and W. Andrews third.
