IMPORTANT WORKS RECOM
MENDED,
A meeting of the Works and Tariff Committee Avas held on October 13th, there being in attendance Messrs M. Niccol (chairman), A. E. Glover, Thos. Henderson, E. Bell, A. J. Entrican, and J. T. Julian.
Plans of new Jetty off Quay-street, 300 ft X sft, to he knoAvn as No. 4, were submitted. The estimated cost of construction is £2,400. Cost of dredging berths and approaches thereto on one side only of proposed Jetty at a cost of £1,000 Avas also considered.—lt Avas agreed to recommend that plans be approved and tenders called ■for the Avork. _.
The estimate of cost for renewing Queen.street Wharf at Harbour Master's' Office and other Avork Avas considered.' The cost of foundation and removal of offices and waiting-room and new examination shed, reneAving Queen-street wharf and lengthening No. 2 Avestern tee was estimated at £4,63*), The Committee agreed to recom.mend that plans and specifications be prepared, ancl tenders called for the Avhole of the Avork.
The Committee inspected general plans and specification for the extension of Hobson-street Wharf. Tlie total cost of the proposed Avork Avas £34,330. Further consideration Avas deferred for one month, in the meantime the City Council to be asked when they proposed to cut doAvn a street near the Avharf.
The question of fire appliances on the •_v karf Avas deferred.
