GRAND JUNCTION COMPANY.
It will be recollected that thi. Company intersected the Martha lode at No. 2 level from their shaft in the Avest section about four Aveeks ago. Since then the lode has been proved to consist of 12 feet of solid quartz and 13 feet formation at the point of intersection. This formation consists of quartz stringers and sandstone mixed, and at the end a Avail Avas met similar to the hanging Avail of lode at the level above. Driving AA*est on the course of the lode is iioav proceeding 47 feet haA'ing been negotiated to date. At a point 25 feet from the crosscut the lode Avas again cut into and found to be 14 feet thick. The formation Avas only penetrated 3 feet, but proved to consist almost entirely of quartz, though of barren quality. Mr EA'ans expects this Aveek to make a second crosscut into the lode at 50 feet from the main crosscut, and these crosscuts Avill be continued until the hanging Avail of the lode is found encasing one solid body of quartz. The main crosscut is noAA* 30 feet past the Martha lode, and will be continued till the Welcome reef is met. The Avinze coming from No. 1 level is doAvn 76 feet, and the lode on the footAvall presents at present the same characteristics as in the level beloAv. As considerable increase in the Aoav of Avater is expectej when the Welcome lode is tapped, the Manager has borroAved from the Waihi Company ancl has iioav in position a duplex pump Avhich has a capacity of about 11,000 gallons per hour, and should prove sufficient for all emergencies. At the Junction end the crosscut is in 425 feet, and the face iioav passing through exactly the same class of country as wr.s met in the. level beloAv previous to intersecting the lode, from which fact the manager has great hopes of meeting the lode here also, and that very shortly. It might be mentioned that the lode in the West section at No. 2 level is not of as good quality as it proved above, but is expected to improve as driving proceeds Avestward.
TE PUKE GOLD REEFS, LIMITED.
A shaft in the main lode is being commenced from the top of the hill Avith a view of ascertaining the underlay ancl value of the 25 feet lode in the heart of ._ie mountain, and for this purpose the directors have authorised the cabling to Messrs Fraser and Chalmers, London, for one of their portable sinking engines and a Babcock boiler.
WAITEKAURI UNION. LIMITED.
This Company, which possesses two large blocks of ground on the northeast and south-west ends of the Waitekauri Company's property, are at present confining their operations to the latter area, known as the Central. Here a main adit level is being driven across the ground with the object of intersecting the Te-Ao-Marama or Komata reef, ancl ultimately the Golden Cross lode, as well as several other lodes known to exist on the Central. This drive is in 1,400 feet, and is being advanced with the aid of rock drills. The country is of good driving nature, and three shifts are constantly employed, so that progress is fairly rapid.
WAITEKAURI KING.
PAEROA, October 15
Warden Bush gave judgment to-day in the action brought by the Waitekauri King G.M. Company against Messrs Broadbent and Comes, on the application by the Company for a claim, and counter application by others, for the same ground as a quartz claim. The case occupied the whole of yesterday and concluded at mid-day to-day. The Warden held that Broadbent- was employed by the Company to peg out the ground, owing fo his knoAvledge of pegs, ,and the Company paid him for pegging. Broadbent knew where the workings were and yet left them out ih pegging for the Company, ancl then pegged them out for himself. Under these circumstances the Warden held that Broadbent and Comes had no right to receive any benefit. Thorburn, Avho Avas brought innocently into the matter as another applicant for a quartz claim, the Warden found northing against. The application of the Company was granted over 34 acres, Avith costs, and Thorburn and Comes are declared trustees for the Company in so far as they have any rights over any portion of the ground in dispute. Mr Baume, with Mr Kenrick, appeared for the Company, .and Messrs Moss and Porritt for the objectors.
