OBITUARY.
On the 30th ult. there passed away] from our midst one of our oldest and most respected settlers, Mr William Sanderson, of Okupu, at the age of 76 years. The deceased Avas a native f Workington, England, and arrive.", in this colony in the year 1863 by the ship Tyburnia, and in the folloAving year settled on the Great t airier. He leaA-es a widow and two sons. Mr Sanderson during his long residence here endeared himself to many. Another old Auckland resident has passed over to the majority, namely, Mr James Owen, who arrived here 35 years ago, and took part in the Waikato War as a non-commissioned officer in the 2nd Waikatos. He also saAv service in the Crimean War, being a member of the oth Dragoon Guards, and was in all the engage, ments but the Alma. After the Waikat _. War he Avas also with Yon Tempsky. He was Avell-knoAvn afc Onehunga as an engineer for Price Bros., and was with that; firm in the early clays at the Thames "oldfields, after which he was for some tima engaged in business at Avondale. Mr ' Owen died at the residence of his dau"liter Mrs Smythe, Mary-street, Mount Eden, oij the 3rd inst. Mr Owen was a son of Mr John Owen, of Tue Brook Villa, LiverPOP1.
