AUCKLAND TOTAL ABSTINENCE SOCIETY.
ANNUAL MEETING. The annual meeting of members of the above Society was held on Oct. 19 th in the Church of Christ, Pollen-street,ancl was avell attended. Tea Avas provided ab6.30 o'clock and the public meeting took place " an hour later- The President, Mr C. G. Hill, occupied the chair, and after a hymn had been sung the ReA. XV. J. Williams prayed. Annual Report.—The secretary, Mr J. W. Carr, read the 56th annual report, which stated that OAving to the previous annual meeting being adjourned until last March, the details only.dealt Avith what had occurred since then. The declaration of trust had been signed by all but- one member, ancl ib was recommended that the rules be incorporated in the minuter-. During the year the hall in Albert-street had been repaired at a cost of £84. Certain Avork had also been done by the Central Alission, and the lease had been extended to ten years at a rental of £52 per annum. The money that had been lying on fixed deposit at a loav rate of interest had been invested in freehold securities. The sum of £2 had been voted to the Prohibition League and £10 towards the stall at the Exhibition under the charge of the W\C.T.U. Reference AA-as also made to .-. the loss sustained by the death of Mr XV. Downey, a faithful and energeticworker in the temperance cause. Officers.—The following officers Avere elected for the ensuing year: — President, Mr C. J. Hill; Vice-President, Mr J. C. Robinson; Treasurer, Mr H. Hirst: Secretary, Mr J. XV. Carr ; Committee, Messrs J. Robinson, J. Lye, G. Plummer, F. Cherry, E. Tremain, H. Stokes, W. Kerr, J. C. Morton, W. Vickery, 1. Davies, E. J. Carr, and J. NeAv. man.
