MINING BILL.
The Mining Bill haA-ing passed through the Goldfields Committee, Avas reported to the House on October 20th. The chief alterations made by the Committee are a reduction of rents, and the introduction of a clause the tendency of AA.iich is to afford increased security of tenure to large mining companies. The Bill, which is a consolidating measure, and repeals the existing Acts, contains 301 clauses. When the motion for its committal is moved, Mr Scobie MacKenzie Avill propose this amendment: 'That it be an instruction to the Committee of the whole on the Mines Bill that it has poAver to insert a clause AAdiereby any Minister of Mines, or other Minister of the CroAvn, shall be debarred from occupying paid positions on mining syndicates or companies operating in the colony?
THE END OF THE SESSION,
Upon the House meeting on Oct. 21 the "Premier said that from indications made and communications received it Avas the earnest desire of members to get home as soon as possible. Upon the objection of Air Pirani to the Cemeteries Act Amendment Bill being placed among the slaughtered innocents the Premier agreed to let it remain on the Order Paper. This means that some 40 Bill:- have been wiped out, and 42 still remain, rather a big order if the House, as is expected, intends to get its business over in about three Aveeks.
