HOSPITAL AND CHARITABLE AID BOARD.
The ordinary meeting of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held yesterdayafternoon, there being in attendance:— Messrs J. Stichbury (Chairman), Bruce, Warren, Beecroft, Swales, Taylor, Jamieson.
Children's Hospital. — The following donations, paid and promised, towards furnishing the new Costley wards were announced : — Lovell, 10s ; Auckland Racing Club, £10 10s; J. Carlaw, £1 Is; C. and A. Collings, £10 10s; Lovetfc and Casey, £1 Is; Miss M. J. Oxley, £1 ; American Order of Oddfellows, £10 10s; Mrs Rattray, £1 ; Auckland Sunday School Union, £21 ; A.O. Foresters, £10 10s; M. Goldwater, 10s.—It was resolved that the donors be thanked by letter. Charitable Aid.—At a previous meeting a letter was read from Mr Thos. A. Gubb, Chairman of the Rodney County Council, pointing out that the contribution on local bodies from 1892 to 189S had increased 61 per cent, and asking how the levy on the Rodney Council had increased from £63 to £183 from 1888 to 1898. He also pointed out the Rodney County's contribution had increased about 300 per cent, in 10 years.— A draft letter from the Chairman in reply was submitted to the Board. This stated that with regard to the rateable values of all counties, boroughs and road districts, these were supplied formerly by the Land Tax Department, and latterly by the local bodies themselves. The contributions had been assessed upon these values uniformly each year at a traction of a penny in the £ on the total rateable value in each district—The reply of the Chairman was approved.
Hospital Fees.—lt was reported the New Plymouth Board owed fees to the amount of £11 Bs.—lt was. agreed to give the Board linal notice to pay the amount due.
