PAEROA NOTES.
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.)
PAEROA, this day.
A local football match which has excited considerable interest for some time past took place on Saturday afternoon in the presence of a large number of spectators. This was Druids v. Oddfellows, and the game was very evenly contested, the first spell ending without any score. In the second spell Pennell scored for the Druids, but the attempt at goal, though an easy one, proved futile. Near the end of this spell Coote scored for the Oddfellows and kicked a goal from the try, the latter team thus winning by two points. Mr Connolly was referee and proved a great success, whilst Messrs O'Hara and Sheen as line umpires proved capable supporters of their respective orders.
A -well-attended meeting of persons interested in providing a hospital for Ohinemuri was held in the Criterion Theatre on Thursday, Mr Colclough in the chair. It was stated that £650 was in the hands of the trustees, and it was decided that an entertainment be held on November 9th; that a Committee of ladies canvass for subscriptions at the races on 9th November; also, that an Hospital Sunday entertainment be held. It was unanimo\isly resolved that Paeroa disclaims any insistance of Paeroa as the site for the proposed hospital and that delegates be sent to Waihi to make this matter clear to residents there.
The children's operetta 'Eed Riding Hood,' with tableaux and children's dances, eventuated last evening- in the Criterion Theatre and proved a splendid success. The acting and singingof the young- ones reflected gTeat credit on their teacher, Miss Milgrew. The large audience Avaxed quite enthusiastic in their appreciation of the efforts of the children.
