WAIHI GRAND JUNCTION.
(By Telegraph— Own Correspondent)
At the Waihi West section of this Com : pany's property, where one of the Waihi Company's" lodes was intersected at the No. 2 level recently, adequate pumping power has now been obtained, and the shaft and drive emptied of -water, allowing driving to be resumed. The lode has been stripped and driven into over two feet, the stone being rather coarse looking, and at present its value is undetermined. Assays are now being taken. The lode is being penetrated oh the.footwall side, and its features are much the same as at No. 1 level, so that the manager expects to find the lode about the same quality here as above. The full size and value of the lode should be determined in the course of a few days. The shaft is being kept clear of water by means of a five-inch Tangye pump which does full duty, whilst a Davy pump is in a position and reserved, so that there is no likelihood of the water becoming troublesome again at this level. A winze is being sunk on the reef from No. 1 level, and is down about 40 feet, the intention being to provide ventilation and at the same time open up the levels at the Grand Junction, and the crosscut from the main shaft is in 340 feet, leaving about 120 feet to be negotiated before the lode is expected to be cut. At this level the country is at present rather tough.
