OAMARA'S FLEET.

ON THE WAY TO

MANILA.

THE NEWS CONFIRMED

MADRID, June 24

The report that the Spanish fleet under Admiral Camara hacl returned to Cadiz from Carthagena was incorrect, a report from Palermo, a seaport of Sicily, states that, Camara's fleet has passed, bound to the eastward, evidently bound for the Philippines, by way 9 fthe Suez Canal. It was announced in the Cortez to-day that Admiral Camara's fleet was going to Manila.

Naval experts here characterise the attempt to re-capture the Philippines as madness.

The voyage from Cadiz to Manila would consume forty days, and under the rule governing the sale of coal the

vessels would bes hort on arrival. Acl-

mitting that at some coaling station on the way the fleet is allowed to take enough coal to enable it to reach Manila, it will have to defeat Dewey before it can replenish from the stock in that harbour. Meantime Dewey will receive reinforcements from San

Francisco.
