ORGAN RECITAL AND SACRED CONCERT.
The re-opening of IJeresford-street CoiiKiegalional Clmrch after its renovatiun was celebrated lust evening by an organ recital and .sacred concert, which was very largely attended, the otl'ortory amounting to £10 ss. The programme was of exeept.iona.l excellence, and all the items were well rendered. Madame Chamber* nang "With Verdure Clad" (Haydn) admirably: -Miss Davies contributed "When Night is Darkest," (Land); Mrs Kady, "The Way of Peace" (Lloyd); Mr \V. Cousins, "The Li»ht of the World" (S. Adams); and Mr Walton, "Calvary 11 (Uoducy), mid "Dc I'rofumlis." A romance by Wekelin was (ihiyed as a solo on the (lute in capital .style by Mr McKean. An- a clarionette solo Mr .!. 11. lloupcr played '* In Die Feme" by C. Baennann in a masterly manner.
'I'ho items played on the ©r«an wore all well appreciated. Mr V. lv Hico contriliutcd with his accustomed finish a sen;nade by Schubert ami another by Gouikkl, al.so a gavotte by M. 1). J'Wer which was well played. Mr.J. I. Hooton displayed considerable ability in management of the organ iia well as great/ powers of execution In iln: manner in which lie played the Kuntasio Patorale, by Wely, in which the allegro movement symbolists the storm, the andante the religious sentiment, and the amiantino illustrates the whittling of the nightingale. Mr Hooton also played a march by Guilmanfc, and Mr McDouga.ll, church organist, contributed in good stylo an inauguration march, and also the " Coin munion in G " by Seotson Clark.
