ALLEGED SUNDAY TRADING.
POLICE COURT PROCEEDINGS.
Two cases of alleged offence against the Licensing Act came before Mr I.Hutchison, S.M., afc the Police Court this afternoon.
Andrew R. Dunn, licensee of the Market Hotel, was charged with allowing liquor to bo consumed on his premises on a bunday. Mr Collins, on behalf of Mr Baume, defendant's counsel, applied for an adjournment, and His Worship agreed to adjourn the case till 10.30 a.m. on Wednesday next.
Winifred Kiley, licensee of the Governor Browne Hotel, was then charged with selling beer on a Sunday. Mr Campbell appeared ior the defendant and pleaded not guilty. Sergeant Treano? said that with Constable Boreham he visited the Governor Browne Hotel shortly after four o'clock in the afternoon of the Sunday in question. Mr John Kiley asked i$ they were travellers. Witness made no answer, as Kiley seemed to know Boreham. On entering the bar he saw two men drinking what appeared to be beor. The. men gave their names as \Vm. Burke, of Ponsonby, and Hy. Jones, bub witness subsequently found that "BurkeV real namo was Stewart, of Alexandra-street, while the other was Samuel Martin, living a few doors below the hotel. Mr Kiley spid the men told him they were travellers coming from Tak&puna, and one of the pair admitted to witness that ho had saidso.
Martin said he and Stewart were supplied with "long beers" by Miss Kiley. Witness never paid and did not know whether Stewart paid.
The case was dismissed
