WELLINGTON, this day
At the Police Commission Ibis morning Mrs Maria Smith attended to give evidence. •
The Chairman said her case coitld not be proceeded with unless the. charges were distinctly formulated against, members of Ihe force who were alleged to have been guilty of negligence, in collection with the case.
Witness said she charged the defectives with persecuting and hounding her down, and preventing her earning a livelihood, but she could not give names. She then read a long rambling statement, the burden ot which was the treatment of her son, who is a constable.
The. Chairman said the statement revealed nothing on which a distinct charge could be based; but when the Commission reached Auckland her son would be examined.
Colonel Hume, correcting his former evidence, said the police franchise was abolished by the Armed Constabulary Act of 1567, which was repealed by*the Act of 1886, that restoring their right to vote.
The Commission has adjourned till Monday morning, when Inspector Pender and delegates from the police will be examined.
