At tlie University Seriate the lion. J. A. Tole was re-elected a member of tlie Board of Governors of the Auckland College and Grammar School. The Finance Committee reported that the balance at the credit of tiie general account in January was £2,907. Tlie accumulated scholarship account amounted to £12,930. A bonus of £50 was recommended to the registrar, and tlie chancellor was recommended to make an appointment to assist in the ollice at a salary not exceeding' £100 a year. Five Bills were put through their iinal stages. It was resolved that 14 junior scholarships be ottered in December, 1898, each to be of the annual value of £._O, tenable for three years, witli the addition of £20 per year to holders obliged to live away from' home. The chancellor was authorised, in tlie event of any vacancies occurring lie fore February 23rd, 1898, in the list of junior scholars elected on tlie examination of 1897, to (ill the vacancies from names on the credit list, taken in order, not going beyond tlie first
two names.
