Drunkenness. —.lane Lindsay, an old woman 80 years of age, was charged with being found drunk in (Jrafton Road.—The woman denied that she was drunk. She said she had not been in (Jrafton Road for four year*.—Constable Mofl'att said that he was coming down (Jrafton Road and two ladies drew his attention to the woman, who was lying down in the street with a bottle of beer in her hand.—Mrs I'urniston, assistant matron at the Police Station, deposed to the woman being drunk when brought to the station.—His Worship discharged the woman oil payment of '2s Od cab hire.— Edmund Hecksher admitted being drunk in Grey-street last night. He was lined os, and ordered to pay 2s Od cab hire, or suffer 24 hours in Mount Eden.

Alleged Wife Desertion..—Matthew Patterson, who appeared in Court voluntarily, was charged that he deserted his wife, Martha Patterson. —Mr Napier said the defendant was anxious to meet the charge. The alleged desertion took place three years ago. He asked that the hearing be adjourned until Monday next, and that defendant be liberated on bis own recognizances.—His Worship granted the re-

quest.
