WATER SUPPLY FOR GISBORNE.

GISBORNE, this day

The Borough Council has decided to purchase the Waihirere watershed for the purpose of obtaining a water supply for Gisborne, and will ask the ratepayers to sanction a loan of £20,000 at o per cent, for carrying out the necessary work. ■ Of that amount it is proposed to use £7,000 in repaying a loan obtained fiom the Harbour Board which falls due in 1901, and that portion of the proposed loan will not be raised until required for that purpose.
