THAMES DRAINAGE BOARD.

The first meeting of the newly-elected Thames Drainage" Board was held this morning at the local office of the Company, New Zealand Insurance Buildings. Pre! sent:—Messrs G. S. Kissling, J. Dickey J. Friar Clarke, W. Scott, G. S. Clark, j Park.

Chairman.---On the motion of: Mr J. Dickey, Mr G. S. Kissling was re-elected Chairman for the ensuing year. Mr Kissling suitably returned thanks.

-Manager's Report. — The manager's annual report on pumping operations was read. He stated that the machinery was now in very fair condition considering the length of time it had been in-.use. The working expenses for the past month had been £231: The consumption of coalffor the year was 2,358 tons. The manager recommended certain repairs to tlie shaft and pumping engine. The report was adopted.

Escape of Gas.—lt was resolved oaf lie motion of Mr Park "that this liieetingatifies the action taken in instructing tlie manager to comply with the requirements of t.he Government Inspector with regard to precautions nece&sary to prevent the escape of gas into the neighbouring mines." Financial.—Accounts amounting to £174 10s Sd were passed for payment.

Auditor.—Mr John Young was re-elected auditor.

Title to the Pump.—The Chairmanexplained what had been done in reference to getting a title for the pump The matter was in the hands of their solicitor, and. an application would duly come before the Judge.

Annual Assessment.—The drainage rate for the year was fixed as follows :—Cambria, £250 ; Victoria, £600 ; KuranuiCaledonian, £427 ; Kuranui, 190; Moanataiari, , £354 ; ■ Waiotahi, £645 ; May Queen,£l,ooo ; ThamesHauraki Goldtields (Limited), £240; Cardigan, £300 ; Thames Borough, £120.—Friday, January 28th, at 4 p.m., was iixed for the hearing of appeals.

Probable Expenditure.—The sum of £4,590 was given as the estimate of the amount required to defray all costs and charges for drainage purposes during the current year.
