TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP.

YESTERDAY'S PLAY.

The following matches were played after we went to press yesterday afternoon:— PARKER AND GORE V. HOOPER

AND MARSHALL.

This double match was without doubt the most exciting of the tournament so far. From the first it was seen that the result would be very close. Parker and Gore lost the first set 6—4 but won the two succeeding ones also 6—4. Then the Aucklanders came on again and won the fourth set 6 3. The deciding set was even throughout 1 all, 2 all, 3 all, etc., up to 6 all being successively called. The excitement of the spectators was intense as Wellington won the next game, and the last game was long hanging in the balance at vantage and duce and finally fortune favoured the Wellington men, who won B—6. Parker's smashing was most brilliant as was Gore's serving. P. Marshall also played excellently, but Hooper was hardly severe enough.
