TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIP.

TO-DAY'S PLAY.

HOOPER V. MARSHALL,

The third round of the Championship Singles was continued this morning when I. K. Hooper met P. Marshall, and again proved an easy winner three consecutive sets falling to him, 6—l, 6 0, 6—3. Hooper was playing in fine form, his placing being* very accurate, while his driving from both sides of the court kept "an excellent length. Marshall seemed to improve as the match proceeded and many times passed his opponent, though his volleying was far less effective than usual. Many of the rallies were very long, and the numerous spectators were treated to a fine exhibition of tennis, the game being much more even than would appear from the score. PEEL V. PEACOCK. This match was being played at the same time and was very interesting throughout. The same pair had met yesterday in the Handicap Singles when Peacock won easily. Peel's play this morning was greatly improved and in consequence the match was much more even though again Peacock won by three sets to Peel's one, the scores being 6—4, 3—6, o—4, 6—l. Peacock's smashing and driving were particularly excellent, and his superior net play gave him a decided advantage, while Peel played a very steady game, lobbing more than usual, and placing well. The winner met Parker this afternoon, when the latter won the last set, 6—2, and the match by 3 sets to 1. MEN'S HANDICAP SINGLES. Styche (owes .{-15) beat J. E. Wilson (scratch), 4—6, 6—3, 6—o.
