COUNTRY NEWS.

PATUMAHOE,

The annual concert in aid of St. Micheal's Roman Catholic Church which took place in the Patumahoe Hall on the evening of the 4th inst. was in every way a success. The programme was much appreciated, especially the comic items. The following are the names of the ladies and gentleman who assisted either vocally or instrumentally :—Misses Kavanagh, Gallagher, Piggott, Goodwin, Olive May Stokes, Mrs Baribal, Messrs McCarthy, Harkins, Harris, Holtom, Hoskin and Wright. The concert was followed by a dance, the music being supplied by Messrs Maxwell, Dromgool, and Mills.

AWHITU. Mr John •S. • Goodwin, Inspector of Schools, examined our four schools. About 90 per centof the children passed into higher standards.

Mrs Hamilton, senior, I am glad to say, is fast recovering from the nervous shock she had some time ago. The Awhitu wharf contract is fast approaching its completion, but I fear the Koad Board will have to build a stone coping across the breakwater or stonework to keep the heavy sea from breaking over on to the newly formed road.
