To-day was a gala day for the Bands of Hope affiliated Avith the Auckland Band of Hope Union, a-largely-attended picnic of the various Bands in the city and suburbs being held in the outer Domain. Several hundreds of people, principally juveniles, gathered at the rendezvous in the Domain this morning, and the morning was passed in various ways, some of those present singing hymns to the accompaniment of a band, while others played cricket and other games. Hot water was provided free, and al fresco lunches were enjoyed. The principal proceedings, however, did not start till this afternoon, Avhen theattendance was very large. The various Bands of Hope mustered strongly, and shortly after two o'clock an excellent action song entertainment was given by the children's choir in the open air. At three o'clock a public meeting was commenced, arrangements having been made for a number of clergymen and others interested in the temperance cause to give addresses. A sporfcs programme was also promoted for the children, who enjoyed themselves thoroughly.
