WAR IN INDIA.
GUERILLA TACTICS ADOPTED.
CALCUTTA, November & a ?^£ Guerilla tactics adopted by the Afridis are proving very harassing to the •British forces. The rebels nearly captured a foraging party. They killed two soldiers and wounded five others. The "Snipers, 1 the name under which these guerilla fighters are known, adopt the method of detailing one of their number to draw the fire of a sentry or camp, when the others, who have made a detour, fire in the direction from which the sentry has fired. By these tactics the Snipers killed Lieutenant C. L. Gifford, of the Northamptonshire Regiment, and wounded several others.
• The column under Colonel Richardson despatched to the Kuram Valley, whilst making a reconnaisance along the Kurmana River, had a sharp light with the tribesmen, upon whom severe punishment was inflicted.
