The alarming rumours current here with reference to the probability of Avar between America and Spain are having a depressing effect on the Stock Exchange. At a meeting, of the Yew York Chamber of Commerce a resolution was carried demanding an increase in the coast defences, and this has caused a depression of prices in Wall-street, the depreciation in the value of stocks totalling 25,000,000 dollars
