At Flemington this morning, in fine weather, Auraria started proceedings by covering a mile and a quarter in 2min 19:}soc, Essex spurted, five furlongs in lmin 6-J.see. Dreamland traversed a mile and a half in 2min 47scc, Positano takingtwo seconds, longer, but running much more generously than usual. True Blue was exercised moderately. Toreador and Mirella ran a mile in lmin sSisec, Mirella finishing in front. Fucile and Surge galloped a mile and a-quarter in 2min 17£secs, Coil and Metford registeringsimilar times. Aniberite and Eitzroy spun over live furlongs in lmin 4see, Amberite wide out on the track. They then eased clown, taking 39sec over another quartermile. The Grafter, in company with Clarion, put up the record of the morning, a mile and a-quarter in 2min lG^sec. The Grafter will be specially dangerous whenever started. The Merry JBoy. bearing evidence of having undergone thorough preparation put in a good working gallop, over a mile and a-halt. Wait-a-Bit, Ayrshire and Manfred exercised similarly. £700 to £400 was laid on Aurum last night for the Derby, after which all 2's to 1 on him were exhausted, bookmakers demanding 5 to 2. Amberite has receded to hundreds to thirty, but is well backed at that price. 1,000 to 40 was taken about Eiridisale also 500 to 10 the Hypnotist for the Derby. Cup wagering was fairly brisk. 400 to 48 was taken about Wait-a-Bit; 500 to 60 Aurum ; 500 to 25 each Toreador and the Merry Boy. 100 to 6 was offered against Trent, and 100 to 4 Parthenopaeus.
