UPPER THAMES MINES.
(By Telegraph—Own Correspondent)
PAEROA, this day. Ivanhoe.—The country rock is improving in the face, being full of mineral veins. This crosscut should cut the Crown reef any shift now.
Imperial.—The recent discovery of gold in the lode at the low level is likely to prove a find of considerable value. This lode had previously been driven on for a considerable distance till the break in the country was met and the lode was cut off recently. Driving was continued along this break with the result that the lode was again picked up going both north and south from the point where it was met, and carrying a vein of rich ore. It is already reported that the reef is two feet wide, of a solid appearance, and incased in splendid ground. The gold is very coarse, and a small sample when pounded and washed left a tail of gold six inches long, which is sufficient guarantee of its richness. The extent of the run can only be determined by future exploration, but this find, in conjunction with other rich patches known of in the ground, and the nice reef in the United section, render this property one of the most promising in Ohinemuri amongst undeveloped claims.
Teutonic (Owharoa). —Nearly 100 feet of the crosscut has been completed from Skeen's Creek to the west, and the manager anticipates shortly meeting the .'ode. The nature of the sandstone country being driven through is certainly very encouraging. Rising' Sun (Owharoa).—A contract has been let for driving the fourth hundred feet of the low level crosscut. After completion of this another 50 feet of driving should cut the reef.
