Votes were taken at Invercargill yesterday on the questions of raising £5,000 each for abattoirs and purifying by semi-chemical process the town's water supply. For abattoirs only a simple majority of votes was required irrespective of the number polled, and the proposal was carried by 508 to 102. The water-scheme, for which a half-poll was necessary, was null, only 600 votes being cast, 358 for and 242 against.
