FATAL BOATING ACCIDENT.
A DEAD BODY FOUND AT ST# HELIER'S BAY. _ At 10.30 a.m. to-day a telephone message was received by the police from St. HelierW ■Bay, to the effect that a body had been* picked up on the beach there. Constables? / Moffitt and Eceles were told off to proceed^ to St. Helier's, and make inquiries. From* their investigations it appears that abouts 8.30 a.m. two horse trainers named Baglep and Walker, while walking along the* beach at St. Helier's, found ah open sailing-; boat washed up by the tide. Two hours? later the dead body of a young many, apparently between 20 and 23 years* ot age, was found lying on tbe beach by" Messrs Bagley and Walker, who at one© notified the police. The constables were* unable to identify the body, but other' circumstances point to a boating accident, and it is thought that there is a second! young man drowned. It hate been ascertained that two young men namecE William Brodie, aged 23, a,nd Dudgeon, aged 20, of Parnell, went out for a sail yesterday morning at 9.35, getting a boat from a man named George. They talked of going to Rangitoto to fish, but neither of them have as yet turned up. Brodif/is the son of Mrs Brodie, of Windsor La.ne, Parnell, and Dudgeon lodged at Mrs Brodie's house. From the description Constable Eceles gives of the body foumd on St. Helier's Beach it is considered to be that of the young man Dudgeon, and tbe boat which has been found also tallies exactly with that in whicn the unfortunate young fellows went out sailing. It seems only too probable that they have been tho victims of a boating accident. So far no trace has been found of Brodie.
