THAMES MINING
(By Telegraph—Own Correspondent.)
Thames, this day,
AlburNlA East.—Sinking of the winze below No. 1 level upon the down strike of the Vale of Avoca reef is now in progress. A depth of 10ft has been reached, but none of the reef has been broken, some difficulty being experienced with water. New GoiiDKN Point.—The lode in No. 2 winze being sunk below the north drive looks well, and is now quite 3 feet thick. It is composed of bunchy quartz and grit hiixed with clayey matter. Gold is frequently seen, and at the last breakingdown strong dabs were noticed^ Adelaide. —In order to push on more rapidly with the Adelaide reef, recently discovered on the south side of the fault, operations in the north drive have«becn temporarily suspended. The manager is of opinion that the quartz body recently discovered is only a branch, and that'there still remains another branch to be found forming the main body. Search for this is now being made. Gold has been seen regularly at each breaking down, whilst some of the stone can be claimed as picked. The branch is not of large dimensions, averaging five inches. Another point worthy of' mention is that the cross lode will junction with this leader about 80 feet ahead.
