WAITEKAURI CROSS.

(From Onr Own Correspondent.)

Paeroa, this day.

Good progress is being made with this Company's main crosscut, which has now been advanced a total distance of 868 feet. At this point a large stream of water was intersecte yd, and the manager is sanguine that the lode is not far off. The Taranalri lode has been driven on a distance of 442 feet, and although the ore is still low grade, it appears to have improved considerably during the last month's driving operations. The lode is of huge size, the last crosscut put through it revealing a body of stone 58 feet wide. About 40 feet back from the face a fault came in on the footwall side, with the result that the reef was heaved about 10 feet out of its course. When picked up on the other side of the break the lode was found to have changed its character entirely, being greatly improved in appearance and heavily charged with mineral. The winze which was being sunk below the main level reached a depth of 88 feet, at which point the water became so troublesome that it was decided to stop sinking further, and to open out at the present depth.
