THE MISSING GIRL
(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent)
Thames, this day. In connection Avith the disappearance from her home at Hikutaia of Miss M. J. CraAvford indications noAV point to the probability of the unfortunate girl having wandered aAvay into the bush. Constable McPhee reports that her footsteps had not only been traced to the creek, but also on the opposite bank leading in the direction of the scrub, the inference being that Miss CraAvford safely crossed the creek and continued on her Avay. The footprints on the other side cannot be further traced amidst the undergroAvth, but it is clear that unless she returned to the stream she can hardly have met her death by droAvning. Searchers headed by Mr Corbett have, therefore, directed their attention to the scrub. So far no word has been received as to the success or othenvise of their efforts.
