TE AROHA.
NEW MUNSTER.
Mr Adams and parby have juab finished an importanb survey of bhe above Company's ground, undertaken with a view of ascertaining the number of lodes traversing the claim in bhe direcbion of the Ethel Reef Goldmining Company's property. It has been found that the famous Vulcan lode, which runs through the Aroha Gold Mines Limited (property) continues on a northeast and soubhwesb course, with an underlay bowards bhe wesb, righb bhrough bhe New Munsber ground into the Ethel Reef claim. As a gold producer in bhe past the Vulcan reef has a vory good record. Two chains easb of bhe Vulcan, a parallel lode, also passes through the New Munster into the Ethel reef property. The quartz in tho latter reef (which is identical with the Premier main lode) is highly mineralised, and assays taken from it in the New Munster ground have yielded £3 148 per bon. Mr T. H. Biggs, bhe mine manager,_B having aquanbiby of ore broken down at a point where the reef is 30ft wide and the stone clean, This will form a trial crushing, and will be pub through the new Chili mill which is now in course of construction on the Greab Wesbern G.M. Company's property.
GREAT WESTERN (WAIRORONGOMAI.
On this Company's properby a trench has been cut at bhe upper level and a well-defined reef exposed for some disbance, in which metallic gold could be clearly seen. Ab No. 2 level, lower down, a winze had juab boen commenced alongside bhe old sbopes, to connecb wibh the main low level drive, in which work is ab present being vigorously carried on. This drivo is in 120 feeb, in nice-looking quartz country, and dish tests of drillings made on the spot gave good prospects. The splendid facilities bhis Company possesses for handling the quartz and conveying it to bhe reduction workß will so reduce ,the cosb of producbion as to enable bhe company bo pay dividends from an all round return of £1 10a per ton. Numerous assays have already beon made of sbone taken from different parts of the mine, which yielded ab bhe rate of from £1 5s to £6 10s per ton. The Great Western Company possesses one great advantage in having obtained bhe right from the Aroha Gold Mines (Ltd.) to utilise the 600fb tunnel driven in the New Find low level, which passes through what is known as bhe Diamond Gully diarite bar, and cutß the former company's main lode in their own proporty. The use of bhis drivo, besides saving the Greab Western Company considerable oublay, will enable them bo develop their property to much better advanbage, as a connection will be formed from bhe drivo bo bhe new babtery. An serial tramway is in course of construction to convey quartz from the main outlet to bhe sbone-breaking machine below, from thence ib will be passed down to bhe kilns immediately above bhe babbery, and aba laber sbage bo the babbery itself. The site for the reduction works has been prepared by cutting away a portion of a bluff on bho Empire S.C., close bo the branch line of the county tramway, which is connected wibh the New Find hoppers. The battery when completed will comprise what U known as the latest designed Chilian mill, and instead of ordinary stampers, rollers will be used for fining down the quartz preparatory to its being put through the cyanide vats. The power for driving the machinery will be obtained from a 140 teeb waborfall in bhe viciniby of, bub below, bhe reduction works. A pelton wheel will be erected, and a wire rope and pulleys brought into requisition, and if I mistake nob this will be bhe firab instance in these colonies where bhe power has been übilised below any similar works insbeaa of above them. Mr W. Reid, tbe company's capable manager, is carrying oub the various development works under the supervision of Mr C. R. Farquharson, mining engineer, and Mr H. D. Griffith is superintending tbe construction of the Chilian milL
