WHANGAMATA.
WHANGAMATA PROPRIETARY.
Very satisfactory progress continuos to be made in this Company's mine, and the results so far met with are of a gratifying character. There aro three chief points of development upon the property, viz., the advancementsouthofNo.s. 1 and 2 lovelsupon that bearing of the main reef, and the extension of a low level crosscut. The latter work has been driven 160 feeb since commencing, and will have to be exbended a . considerable distance further before the main reef series will be intersected. The two drives south upon bhe reef have been in steady operation for some bime past. The No. 1 level is forward from the starting point a total length of 650 feet. No. 2 level is also well advanced and has reached a total distance of 460 feeb. The whole of this work has been carried oub upon bho course of the lode, and has served to thoroughly exploit a very largo section of country, and, as can be seen, quite 1,000 feet of reef has been tested by bhe drives mentioned. The results obtained from these points of operation are of a highly gratifying character, and assays which have been regularly made slow rosults ranging from £3 to £33 per ton. There is apparently no appreciable difference in the character or quality of tbe ore body at either of the levels mentioned, and, so far, there is every reason to believe that the ore coming to hand is of a uniform grade so far as quality is concerned. The output of ore from this drive has been carefully paddocked, and there is calculated to be quits 3,000 tons on hand. The erection ot a mill, ib is expected, will be commenced shortly, and the waber race bo acquire bbc required driving power is being commenced. There are 40 men engaged on tbe various works, all of which are proceeding most satisfactorily.
