Last evening a meeting of the Auckland Jubilee Military Toumamenb Committee wae held in the Drill Hall, Lieut. Colonel Banks presiding. The first business brought up was the question of the disposal of the neb proceeds (expected to be about £400) from the recent military tournament. It was resolved on the motion of the Socretary, Lieutenant C. H. Clemens, "That it be an instruction to the trustees of the military tournament fund to keep the funds banked until such time as the citizens have decided on the object they wish carried into effect to commemorate. the Record Reign, the Baid object to be actually under way before the proceeds are headed over, In the event of the citizens making no effort to carry oub the object within the term of twelve calendar months from date, the funds to be diverted by the Toumamenb Committee to any volunteer purpose they may deem desirable or necessary." A letter was read from the Record Reign Celebration Committee applying to the Tournament Committee tor payment of £42 9a 4d expenses incurred by them in connection with the celebration (procession, etc.), the public having failed to contribute towards the expenses incurred. After considerable discussion tho Committee resolved to vote £21 as a donation to the Celebration Committee, without recognising any liability for the expenses incurred. The largest item in the accounts submitted by the Celebration Committee was the sum of £15 for the Secretary, and this the Tournament Committee objected ta, several members saying thab they were opposed to voting anything towards a paid Secretary.
Several protests in connection with the military sports were dealt with. . Protests against the winners of the tens-pitching competition and the non-commissioned officers' race were dismissed. In the Friendly Societies' Handicap, Oliver, the third man, protested against the first and second men, McDermotb and Cummings, on the ground that they had nob worn regalia, in accordance with the conditions. The proeesb was upheld, and it was decided to award the prize to the third man.
The Secretary, Lieut. Clemens, reported that he had received an invitation from the Queen's Statue Csaamifcbee to attend the meeting' of that body, of which he had been elected a member. He aaked for an expression of opinion from the Committee as bo whether it would be judicious for any member of the Committee to accept a position on the Statue Committee as representatives of the former body. After lomo discussion a resolution was adopted to the effect that it was nob deemed desirable that members of the Tournament Committee should accept Beats on the Statue Committee or any other Commitfeoe as representatives of tho Tournament Commmittee until such time aa the Record lleign memorial had been decided on.
