A meeting of gentlemen interested in mining met to-day, and formed a strong committee to oppose an application by the Gold Recovery Company for amendment of the cyanide patent.

The Government have decided to immediately proceed with preliminary works in connection with the gold fields water supply scheme. Tenders will shortly be called for the construction ot a reservoir to hold four billion gallons.
