THE NAPIER ASSAULT CASE.
CORONER'S INQUIRY,

Napier, Monday. The coroner's jury were engaged from half-past two p.m. to-day till seven p.m. hearing the evidence in connection with the death of the man named Jamos Mclntofch, a station hand at Te Mahanga, who succumbed to the injuries received in being assaulted and robbed in Munroesisreot on the night of tho 20th inftnefi by two men, allegod to be George Wilson and John Fitzgerald. The evidaace showed that decesned received a- cheque for £67 from a Mr Douglas, parb of which he lefc with 'a Hastings hotelfeeeper, aod came into Kitpior on the 20th iuetant with aboub £7 in hie posReunion in company with the two accused. They had drinks ab various hotels, and about teu p.m. A-lclntosh vwis found by. two perßons going homo, having been brutally assaulted. Wilson and F.t/.gerald had worked with him on the Rtation, and when arrested, blood was found ou both tliuiv boots and trousers, while a boy gave evidence as to eeeing throe men struggling, about ninoo'clock that night. Mclntot-h's depositions were taken on Friday, and ho recognised accused aa the two man who iis<Bnuited. him. Tho jury roturnod a verdict of death from failuro of tho heart's action, with sufficient evidence to justify further proceedings.
