THE AUCKLAND REGATTA.
The Auckland Anniversary Regatta is to take place as usual on Friday next the 29th inefe. It ia beped the weather will be favourable, andthat the Knees will be interesting events, but ib is to bo regretted chat the Regatta, Committee have been hampered by want of adequate funds. The public have not como forward aa liberally as in past years, aDd the subscriptions ao far are not up to requirement. However the Committee hare done the beet with the funds at their disposal, and some of the races, eepeciatly several of the yacht contests, promiae to be interestfoe A feature of the day was to have been the champion wbaleboab race, but unfortunately this baa fallen tfaroncn, as alao has the Champion ?acht Race, which in the past has led to such exciting contests between the Volunteer and \ iking. The time honoured races for coasting trading vessels have, however, been reLined in the form of races for scows and cutters, in the former the Pukapuka, Irene and Orakei will compete, and in the cutter ?ace the Henry. Harvest Home and Willie Winkle, «ith possibly some posb entries. In the rece lor S^-rater yachts (now under a new classification) there will also bo an fnterestinp sailing contest. The various rowing raws have elicited poor fields, bub fchT naval cutter race should prove an exciting event. The ladies' whaleboat race, also, in which a native women's crew from Orakei will probably compete, should also be worch Snc as a novel epactacle. The fir ß c race starts ab 9 a.m., and the a.a. Te Anaa will *The'Kegatta Committee holds a meeting tonight to settle the final details of the day's races.
