THE FROZEN MEAT TRADE.
(ST TMMBATH—OWN OORBMWJNI!»ST.)
Wellington, this day. Ah apparently inspired article appeared in yesterday's " Times " advocating the despatch by the Government of a commissioner, or commissioners, to develop tbe frozen meat trade in West Australia, India, the Malay Peninsula, China, Japan and Java. Reference is made to tbe increasing hold that the Argentine frozen meat has obtained on the market, and New Zealand exporters are advised to seek new markets before tbey are completely ousted from the English one. The " Post" considers if these are the intentions of tha Government, then the Governmenb is starting ab bbc wrong end. Ib advocates the despatch of commissioners to England armed with sufficient powers. The result of their investigation, the " Posb" considers, wonld be that the Government must control tbe dead meat and dairy produce trade. The only cure for tbe tile of tbe frozen meab trade, it proceeds to say, is for the Government to be, in tbe discretion of the grower, consignor and consignee. As for new markets, one of the most promising ab present seems to be South Africa, aad a trial shipment shosld be sent.
