A warrant for the arrest of Thomas Carroll, who is charged with being tho perpetrator of the void throwing outrage at Paeroa on Wednesday, was issued yesterday afternoon, but the police have co far been unable to find the accused. It is said that on bis arrival in Auckland by the s.s. Paeroa at five o'clock yesterday morning his movements were watched by two constables who bad been informed of bhe occurrence, and his place of residence hero,was ascertained, but in tbe afternoon when the warrant was issued, ib was found thab the accused bad disappeared. It is thought likely that he managed to get away by one of the two boats which lefb Onehunga." At the inquest on the body of Thomas Win. Mdyes. farmer, Upper Waiwera, who died suddenly s few days ago, a verdict that death was due to natural causes was returned. A native named Ngapuhi Renata has been committed for trial ab R.iweno on two charges of forgery and uttering. A fire broke out in Easb-stroot, Newton, About a quarter to twelve this morning, when a building used by bhe members of the Church of Christ as a meeting house was gubted, and bhe contents, consisting of two harmoniums, a number of seats, etc., were destroyed. The building belonged to Miss Matthews, Franklin Road, and was insured for £50 in the South British, the value being about £120. The contenba, which were worth about £70 wero uninsured. It is not known how the outbreak occurred. A deputation frombbe Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board consisting of Messrs J. Stichbury (Chairman) and J. Bollard, and Mr Garland (secretary) waited on the Hon. A. J. Cadraun to ask whether the Government would be favourable to the passing of the local Bill at the next session of Parliament vesting the control of the hospital endowments in tha Board instead of in the Public Truatrejt. Mr Cadman could not give a decided answer, as the matter was one for a local Bill instead of a Government measure, but be eaid that if tbe Board wished to introduce such a Bill they would not be interfered with, though no doubt the Minister in charge of the Department would like to see a copy of the Bill. This leaves it open for the Board to have the Bill introduced if they consider, ib expedient to do so. A good deal of interests is being manifested in the brass band contest to take , place ab the Te Aroha Domain on Friday next. The competition ie open to bands in the Thames, Ohinemuri, VVaikato, Piako, Waipa and Tauranga coun- < ties, and cash prizes of £20, £10 and £5 will be offered. In tho evening a solo contest is,to take place in the Public Hall for whtch trophies will be given as prizes. Mr C. Trussell, of Auckland, will act as adjudicator, and Mr S. L. Hast, : supervisor. On tho day of tbe contest a : special train will leave Auckland ab 7 a.m;, and leave Te Aroha at 5 p.m, '
