THE QUEENSLAND CRICKETERS.
THEIR MATCH AGAINST AUCKLAND.
TO-DAY'S PLAY
The weather was again excellent for the continuation of tbe match to-day and tbe wicket was slightly better than yesterday.
On resuming play Macdonald cub Cuff's first ball fer a single (ISO) and Bradley, by a similar stroke, obtained a brace. Bradley added three to his score by a nice drive for a single and a cut (in Hawkins' first' over) for a couple. Cuff now took himielf off in favour of Neill, whose first over produced a single to Macdonald. The firsb ball of Neill's nexb over Bradley senb up amongsb the fieldsmen, bub the nearest man (Kallender) was nob near eaough. and the hib produced a single. Tbe nexb ball Macdonald drove to bhe boundary (191), and bho fourth of the over the same batsman drove past the bowler for three, the third ran resnltiag through bad fielding by Ball. Several pretty hits by Bradley producing bwo, two and three saw the eecoad century appear without mishap. Four runs later Bradley, who had played a baillianb innings of 63, retired l.b.w. to Neill. 264—5-63.
McGlinehy was the nexb batsman, and on his arrival a good deal of interesting play followed. The scoring board showed 210 up afber three had been added to MeGlinchy'a score and two to M acDonald's, and then followed three maiden overs to Hawkins and ono to Neill. So slow was bhe scoring ab this stage that eight overs realised only seven runs. Hay again replaced Neill ab bhe Hespital end, aad his first two overs were maidens while the lasb ball of the second over clean bowled MeGlinchy. 218—6—8. On the next batsman, Cowley, arriving, Kallender took Hawkins' place, his firsb over producing a single to Macdonald. Hay bowled another maiden, and the second ball of Kallender's next over Wright effected another very prebby catch behind the wickets, the victim being tbe now arrival Cowley. 218—7—0. Wilson gave a chance to Stemson in the slips Kallender's next ball, bub the ball passed righb through Stemson's hands, and produced three rnns. Kallender, however, lost little by the miss, for after a conple had been adued to the Beore, Wilson was caught by Cuff ab point off Kallender's fifth ball. 223—8— 4. Miller, who followed Wilson, opened his score by slipping Kallender for 3, past Stemson, and breaking Hay's list of maiden overs by cutting the third ball of Hay's fifth over for three. Up to thab stage, flay had bowled four maidens and taken one wicket. Miller snicked one of Kallender's for 3, and his companion, by a pretty stroke sent another of bhe same bewlers bo bhe leg boundary for 4. Miller added another 3to his score off Hay. his score showing four 3's in succession. In Kallender's next over Wright appealed for a catch off Miller, bub tbe umpire's decision was in favour of the batsman. Miller brought 240 up by hitting Kallender to leg for a single, Neill now going in the place of Kallender at tbe Newmarket end. Ab 242 Hay gave way to Stemson. Hay had bowled 10 overa and 8 maidens for 6 runs 1 wickeb. Stemson's second over produced twe 2's to Miller, but in Neill's nexb over bhe third ball beat Miller. 251-9—lß. Hibchcock, tbe last man, was clean bowled by Stemson after making a single, and the innings closed for 252. After the luncheon adjournment Auckland, with 122 runs to gel to save an inning's defeat, opened their second innings with Neill and Cuff, tbe latter taking Miller's first two ball. Tho second Cuff drove for a Bingle, the rest of the over being: taken by Mills. In J Miller's firsb over, Cuff played the fifth i ball for a single, but the lasb ball of the over took Neill's wicket. 2—l—o. Wrighb filled bhe vacancy. and bis firsb ball from Miller he cub away far 3. Both he and Cuff began to show some good sound ' cricket, and 20 soon appeared as the resulb of as many minutes' batting. Ab 25, however, McGlinehy went on in place of Miller, and ab his fourth ba'l Wrigbb was given out lbw. 25 —2—ll. Wrighb's place was taken by Ohlson. In Miller's next over* Cuff hit one bo the boundary (the firsb boundary scored off Wilson up bo this stage), and the last two balls of the over produced three more to tbe same babsman (30). Wibh Cuff batting in fine style, and Ohlson playing steadily, tho score soon increased from 30 to 40, a boundary off a pretty leg hib by Cuff causing applause. Cuff now began to hib out vigorously, and several hits into the outfield produced 2, 3, 4, 2. and 2, in quick succession, chiefly off McGlinehy. The boundary was obtained from a nice drive out to the boundary line at the Newmarket end, one of the hardest hits of tbe day. In a short time 60 appeared, when Wilson was replaced by Jones, and McFlinchy by Lewis. Cuff, who had evidently gob well set, continued to punish tha bowling very severely, and his score soon passed the half century. Of the first 72 runs scored Cuff had made 51. Ohlson also batted in good style and waa nob long in entering double figures. At 83, however, Ohlson stepped out to one from Lewis, missed ib and was clean bowled. 83—3—11.
At 2.30 the score was 120 for five wickets, Pabst was stumped by Hitchcock for 7.
