MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.
The fourth annual meeting of tho Auckland Liedertafel was hold in the Cookstreeb Hall on Dec. 11, Mr Frank Wright presiding. The reporb of tho Committee was road by the Secretary, Mr J. Simpson, and congratulated tho Society on tho mosb successful operabion of bho Lidertafel since its formation four years ago. Tho subscribers' roll now totalled 187. Tho report then went on to sny: "As regards the musical aide your Comtmt.eo desire to congratulate the members upon sustaining bhe high reputation the society has earned, and would tender their thanks to bhe conductor (Mr Towsey) for his efforts in this direction." The statement of accounts as read by the Treasurer, Mr Parrish, showed a credit balance of £33 Is 3d, as againsb £3 Is 6d for tho precoding year. Tho report and accounts were adopted. The following officers wore elected for bhe ensuing year -.—Patron, Bishop Lenihan ; President, Judgo F. D. Fenton ; Vicepresidents, His Worship the Mayor (Mr J. J. Holland). Hon. J. Tole, Dr. Dawson, Dr. Egan, Professor Brown, G. Mueller, V. E. Kico; Conductor, Mr Arthur Towsey; Secretary, Mr J. Simpson ; Treasurer, Mr Purrieh; Librarian, Mr J. P. Pyo ; Committee, Messrs F. Wrighb, M. Trenwibh, H. Davoy, W. George, J. Warner ; auditor, Mr H. W. Taylor.
The annual social gathering of the Young Men's Christian Association was held ou Dec. 11, and ab tho same time a reception was given to tho President of the Association (Mr J. L. Wilson) and Mrs Wilson on their return from their European tour. Tho building was artistically decorated tor tho occasion with dowers, ferns, and flags, and bhere was a large attendance. Mr Thos. Buddie presided, and welcomed back the President and Mrs Wilson from thoir travels. He tben presented them wibh an address, which will be suitably engrossed, welcoming back Mr and Mrs Wilson, and praying that they mighb be long spared to guide the Association with their counsel. Mr Wilson, in reply, said he and Mrs Wilson wore vory glad to be back amongsb them agaiu, and to renew their roligious work. During tho past ten months thoy bad had a very enjoyable trip, and had visited many ecenos of interest in the Orient, and in Palestine. In the Old Country he visited tbo various scones connected with early V.M.C.A. work, and in most places ho visited he found a Y.M.C-A. established. A sacred concerb was then given, songs being contributed by Miss Alice Rimmer, Misi Butler, and Messrs S. C. Johnson and R. H. Buttery, while the pianoforte accompaniments were played by Misses McMusters and Rimmer, and Mr Wells. Refreshments were pnrtaken of, after which tho guests dispersed to the readingroom and social hall, whore graphoscopes, photographs, etc., wore shown, and where Mr Cro.her performed some interesting electrical experiments. The concluding portion of the entertainment was bhe gymnastic display in the Gymnasium by Prof. Carrollo aud a number of his pupils.
