BOROUGH COUNCIL MEETINGS.

NEWTON.

The ordinary mooting of the Newton Borough Council was held last nighb, there being present:—Mr R. Warnock (Mayor), and Cr&. Leo, Wilaon, Sbackelfurd, Donald and Warnock,

Water Consumption.—Tho Town Clork reported that the consumption of water for tho week ending; November 23rd was 129,000 gallons, and for the week ending November 30th, 132,000 gallons. Report.—The Foreman of Works reported that the drainage of Tennyson,street had been completed, with the exception of connecting a few down pipes within the schoolground, also that 93 loads of rough Beoria had been laid in Francisstreet, Richmond. Several of the street natno platea had been erected aa directed. —Tho report was received. Chamtablb Aid.—A communication was read from tho Chairman of the Taranaki Hospital and Charitable Aid Board urging that a combined effort should bo made to bring tha niatbor of charitable aid and source of revenuo before Parliament.— It waa resolved to reply that the Council were willing to co-operatoin any reasonable echomo. Potruo. Cr. Warnock. drew attention to the impounding of cattlo in tha borough, and suggested that tha whole matter should bo discussed ab the nexc meeting.— This waa agreed to, t!>o Towb Clork to report on the amount received for poundage fees during the pasb 12 months. Installation.-—The Mayor stated that tho nexb meeting of tho Council would bo held on tho evening of Decon.ber 16th at 7.50, when Cr. Shackolford would bo installed Mayor for the year. NEWMARKET. The ordinary meeting or the Newmarket Borough Council was held lnec evening, Mr J. U. Laxon (Mayor) piesiding. It was decided to notify all ratepayers by circular that unless current rate? are paid by the Ist of January, ten per cant, will bo added, according to clause 60 of tho Hating Act, 1894. The only other business was the appointment of Mr J, 6. Carr aa valuator for the borough.
