THE TREBELLI CONCERTS.
It ia bub seldom any ot the world's really great! artistes can spare the six or eight months a trip to the antipedes necessarily occupies, and consequently mosb of the CSlobriteH we haTO had ont hero have been old and passd. Dilfarenb is the case of Mllo. Antoinette Trobell:, who comes to us in the full glory ofheryoubh—an ascending, not a descending, star, and tins fact explains the quite unuaunl ainounb of interosb which i* beinw evinced in ths coming of the prvma donna. Mile. Trebelli ia tho daughter of two of the greatest artistes tho operatic stage of the nineteenth century has known, viz., Aiesaandro Bettini, the Rilvary-voiced Italian tonor, and no less a personage than tho international contralto, Madnmo TrebolliBokbini. Unliko her parents, Mile. Trebolli (Mile. Bettini in pvivato lifo) has decided nob to adopt an operatic career, having an ambition to rank aa quean of the concert platform — a difficult task indeed, though a highly praiseworthy one to raise the concerb platform in public favour, for our fin dt siecle audiences in many instances look for display and splendour in the first placo; then, as a secondary matter only, for music. Yet such artistes as Santley (Trebelli's Grab teacher), Foli, Edward Lloyd, Ben Davies, Albany, Patti and a fetv others always draw large crowds to their concerts, ciowds who go to hear music for music's sake. And, knowing Auckland audiancea as we do, wo have no hesitation in predicting crowded houaos. The management of the Trebolli world tour was reluctantly compelled to go to bbc Choral Hall, the Opora House being otherwise engaged, bub this will in no wise interfere with the great musical treat which we are expecting.
