YESTERDAY.
(Before Mr H. W. Northorofb, S.M.) Alleged Pocket Picking.—James Mam* was charged wibh having on January 2nd, 1896, ab bhe Elloralie Racecourse, stolen from the person of John Murphy the sum of 10s in money.—Sergeant Gamble appeared for the police, and Or. Laishley for the accused.—Counsel asked that the oats be dealt wibh summarily, and offend to plead guilty on accused's behalf, bat Hit Worship decided, after consideration, (kit bbc case could nob be co dealt with. It appeared from statements made in Court and from the evidence tbab bhe offence w»i committed &t> bhe Bllerslie Racecourse ia January latt. Tbe accused was arrested on the charge, bat admitted to bail, and before the case came on he absconded. Tha police bad been looking for him erer since, and had succeeded in again arresting him about a fortnight ago in Wellington. Evidence was given by John Murphy, carter. Job. T. Darby, compositor, Richard McKenzie, setbler, and Constable Howell, The accused was committed for trial. \
