Several applications for special claims were received at the Warden's office today for ground in the vicinity of Tabla Mountain, four miles north-east of Thamei, where BOTeral lodes are outcropping.
A small wooden building ab Hiknraugi (near Mangonui), tbo property of Wm. Henry Blyth, was destroyed on the 14th Jane. There was no insurance on the property, wbiqh contained articles valued ab about £80.
The firsb circuit quarterly mooting of the Wesleyan and Free Methodist Churches since the union was held ab the Pitt-ebreeb fchurcb on Wednesday evening, the Rev. H. Bull presiding. Measra W. Gunson and T. Hodgson wore appointed district stewards. The following membership returns wera submitted :— Members, 470; on trial, 20 ; catechumens, 69 ; deaths, 3; removals, 10. The Sundayschool returns showed : Scholars, 1,176 ; teacher 9, 117. The financial returns mhowed receipts, £265 12s 8d ; expenditure, £296 11s lOd; deficit, £30. 19a 2d. The debit balance; of lasb quarter had been reduced by £73 special subscriptions, leaving tha old balance at £126" 19s 9d, or £157 18a lid in all. lb waa resolved to write a letter of sympathy to Mr S. J. Ambury, now ill, expressing a hope for his apeedy recovery. Resolutions were passed to make all necessary preparations for the new church ab Kings-, land. lb was resolved by a majoriby^ of those present, they approve of the Wes. leyan Methodist Cburch Properby Trusb Acb, 1887, Further Ainendmenb Bill, now before Parliament.
A very successful dance was given in the Papakur* Public Hall by the .members of the Papakura Masonic Lodge on Friday lost There was a large attendance, some 50 or 60 couples being present. The hall was beautifully decorated with evergreeno, and was bright with flags and bunting. The Masonic brethren appeared in fu» regalia. Messrs A. G. Fallwell, T. N. Todd and French acted efficiently as M.C.'c and great credit ie due to them and the acting committee, and specially to Mr .H. Barber, W.M., for a most enjoyable evening. The music was well rendered by Burke'i String Band, and the supper was all thato could be desired. Dancing was kept up witb great spirit until an early hour of next morning.
