(BY TELKGfcAFH—PRESS ASSOCIATION.)
Wellington, this day. Among the civil cases heard m the S. M« Courb to-day was that of Mrs Fetton v. the Hona Seddon and Ward. The plaintiff is the owner of bhe paper " Daybreak. ' wlxich she alleges she agreed with the defendants to conduct an a Government) paper, on condition that she received sufficient Government advertisements to covor the cost Of priiicing and publishing. The price paid was insufficient to do this, and she claimed £50 from each of the defendants us damages and the same sum by way of indemnity. Mr Jeilicoe, who has been acting for Mm Felton, snid she had instructed him not to go on with it, as she had been compelled to withdraw the action. Counsel enid the plaintiff assured him she had been pestered out of her life during the laet few days by Government officials to stop the case. Mr Gully, for the defendants, characterised the whole chine as a deliberate attempt at blackmail, for no counsel would have advised a client that any action against the Crown lay against two members of the Government personally. He claimed and obtained-costs, £2 14s.
