Wo have had aome vory hoary showers lately, and tho creeks are all running again. Grass has al*o made n fair start, that is where it is not driod up altogether, tho principal drawback jusb now bom*; enormous swarmw of crickets, which did nob /.how to any extenb till tho rain came. Mr Curtis contemplates moving from Pukokaroro to tho junction of Munguwai and North Roads. A numerously s-ignod petition has bet3n forwarded to tho Chief Postmaster asking to transfer the Pukokaroro poet and telephone office, at present operated by Mr Curtis, with him whon he move* his buildings, and also bo establish in connection a money order office and savings bank. Air (Jurtis will also eeb up a blacksmith** -hop, so he will mako a very desirable acquisition to onr community, and also form U centre in t.ho settlement.
A movement i* on foot to raise subscriptions for tho Brunnerton reliof fund. A mooting wat* held on the llth inst. ab Hakaru, convened by Mr F. Clark, ab which a ('ubwtantial amount was subscribed, and a Committee formed to canvass this and adjoining districts.—(Own correspondent.)
